Originally conceived as the score for the film Fire Underground by Nick Crockett, this music has accumulated additional meanings for me as climate change and coronavirus escalate. Nick describes Fire Underground as "a speculative fantasy which re-imagines and reinterprets the history of coal mining in the eastern United States...The project features a paleozoic coal forest deep underground, which is slowly returning to life. The forest is a kind of purgatory, but also a repository of the myths and dreams of the people living above...I’ve tried to render the past as a space for possibility, for transformation, and for a kind of communion. It is filled with danger, but also with openings and with light."

Today, with so many in isolation and gripped with worry, I offer it as a balm: a re-connection to earth in the past, present and future.

As I know many are hurting financially right now, I offer it freely to those who can not afford it. For those who can, I am one of many who can use your support right now.

Thank you for listening. When we share common music, we share common space. When we gather, even if only across distances, love thrives.
