"Dead Hymns was originally planned to be the third Second Thought album - a conceptual follow-up to Vacuum Road Songs, taking that album's dark tones and expanding them to a literal trip through 'hell'. For various reasons, the album was scrapped in favour of working on Safernoc in 2009; shortly afterwards, the hard drive the session files were saved on became corrupted.

Finally restored, I am happy to share with you the November 2008 mix of Dead Hymns. At the time I had planned to compose a grand finale featuring a choir, and replace the string quartet segment with a real string quartet - sadly this was not to be. Instead, the 46 minutes that made it are presented here in their original format without tampering."
