This Japanese edition is the US Yep Roc digipak issue in stickered shrink with an obi added and packaged in a resealable outer bag.
The digipak has a clear tray, features personnel credits and holds a twelve page lyric book.

On the reverse of the obi is a download code for a Japan-only bonus track, Act Your Ages (sung by Chris Murphy), in wav format.

The back of the obi includes brief, uncredited liner notes as follows:
当『12』はバンド自身、通算12枚目の作品となる。タイトルは『Led Zeppelin IV』、Black Sabbathの『Vol. 4』、『Chicago 4』と同様の意味を持ち、バンドは当作の制作時から#Sloan12とタグをつけツイートをおこなっていたが、それがそのままアルバム・タイトルとなった。Sloanはバンド結成時から一度もメンバーの変更がなく、全員が同等にソングライティングに寄与し、ヴォーカルも担当。『12』でもその流れは踏襲されているが、「前作『Commonwealth』はメンバーのそれぞれが独自に曲を仕上げてきたが、今作ではよりコラボレーションをおこなった」と『12』についてJay Fergusonは語っている。2018年2月、バンドはアルバムのリリースをアナウンス。Patrick Pentlandが曲を書きヴォーカルも担当する「The Day Will Be Mine」も公開した。
"12" is the band's 12th album. The title of the album is similar to "Led Zeppelin IV," Black Sabbath's "Vol. 4," and "Chicago 4," and the band has been tagging their tweets #Sloan12 since the album's creation. Sloan has never changed members since its inception, with all members contributing equally to songwriting and vocals. Jay Ferguson said that "each member of the band wrote their own songs for the last album, "Commonwealth," but this album is more collaborative." In February 2018, the band announced the album's release. The band also released "The Day Will Be Mine," written and sung by Patrick Pentland.
