Their similarity, which is so evident to have become completely uninteresting in our daily conversations still holds, nevertheless, an important intuition for music: its incantation upon the listener has so much to do with hearing voices, even when they are not actually there.
“An elephant in the room”, the seventh album by Somaticae, is built around these themes. What is hidden in plain sight. What we don't pay attention to, because we lost the sense of its importance. The perception of voices despite their absence - either because they are synthetic voices from a machine, or because they are what got us enchanted in the first place, and transported us somewhere else.
In a mirrored structure, nightmarish stretches of samples and digital percussions are opposed to digitally bucolic passages. The album expands on textures inspired by Gerald Donald, Autechre and Giacinto Scelsi - following a similar thread as Somaticae's previous LP (“Organisme”, released in November 2023 on In Paradisum). However, the addition of voices to the sonic pot brings new sculptural movement to the compositions. Bringing to the fore, as in a spell, what had always been hidden in dreams, imaginations, different perspectives.
