This year, as you know, the Species of Fishes project is celebrating its 30th anniversary and, in commemoration of this event, is releasing a series of vinyl editions reflecting its difficult creative path. The first two releases were a rethought, recompiled and remastered version of the Species of Fishes album of the same name, first released in 2000, and the mysterious album VIII, conceived in the early 2000s and only released digitally in 2015.
Next in line is the historic millennium set Festival, another album from the early 2000s, perhaps the most popular of all SOF releases, which is a studio fixation of the most striking live performances of SOF at the turn of the millennium in an expanded line-up with the Untouchables trumpeter Pyotr Tikhonov. Unfortunately, the first edition of the album came at a time when CDs around the world began to lose their positions sharply, and the era of the total revival of vinyl had not yet arrived, so the small edition of the album was quickly sold out and now has become a rarity. This album was appreciated by thousands of fans from all over the world who got copies of it in a CDR version, a remastered digital copy, or who were lucky enough to attend those few but memorable performances.
The concept of the album was based both on the widely spread apocalyptic / millenarian moods at that time, and on the destructive retromania directly connected with them, but here BP set themselves the opposite task, futuristic and progressive, the idea of which is directly related to the idea that was established after the victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War, the tradition of holding International Festivals of Youth and Students from countries demonstrating solidarity in the struggle for peace and against the policies of neo-colonialism and imperialist militant capitalism, hence the name of the album - Festival.
Carefully selected loops and samples (based on a small collection of vinyl discs with music from the Warsaw Pact countries and other countries friendly to the USSR), painstakingly polished grooves, a skillful combination of retro elements with modern fat ACID patterns, sounds and rhythms of surreal cyberpunk, breakbeat, trip-hop and dub, all this is explained by the very sub-title of the album GLOBAL CYBER ACID SET.
Having carefully adapted the album for the vinyl edition (partially editing and reordering the tracks), we are pleased to introduce you to a significant segment of our work.
