During Kenton's weeklong residency at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, a key to the city, and June 16-22 was proclaimed Stan Kenton Jazz Week in Springfield. The Jazz clinic ended with a 7 hour marathon concert at Central High School auditorium which included 14 student bands, an improvisation band and the Kenton Orchestra.
