Permafrost: Music For Hibernation by Stephen Parsick

Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 2010-04

Label: Doombient.Music

Performed and recorded at Cold Furnace, Bielefeld, in February 2010.
Mixed, engineered, and produced in February and March 2010.

Black CDr in a plastic clamshell cover.

Unlike the previous all-black CDR albums, Permafrost was not limited to a production run of 25 copies only. The album was available for a while until supplies of materials (those black CDRs in particular) dried up in about 2011. The digital download that was also available for some time via MusicZeit and later Iapetus and BandCamp featured extended versions of the single tracks whereas the CDR album had a playing time of 76:00 minutes. There were less than 50 copies made altogether.

The textural ambient work on this album was based around close-miked recordings of tree trunks and rocks thrown onto frozen lakes, audio material run through ice and water, and ice floes on a canal.
