Album Info

Release Date: 2008-07-21

Label: TrebleO

Aiming to pick up where they left off with Sugar Beats, The Sub Ensemble project is danceable, uplifting jazz music with raw grooves, moving melodies and fluid improvisation. They’re already creating a stir live; energising a packed-out Birmingham Town Hall with their first ever gig! Faster than the sun features guest vocalist Sara Colman. Sara’s outstanding vocal performance sits beautifully over the top of the band’s heavy Latin groove as it descends into an extreme bari sax solo from Colin Mills! A track so good it’s already been bootlegged from the band’s Myspace page for a play on 1Xtra! Also featured here is an exclusive remix by professional beat mangler and Treble O owner, Domu. 22:21 is a fast, thrashy Latin tune with a BIG percussion breakdown courtesy of Overproof Soundsystem’s percussionist Magoo. This track previously appeared on the Here comes Treble compilation released on Treble O in May. Warning fire is a collaboration with vocalist Leo Altarelli. Leo shows off his great vocal talent and delivers a real frontmans performance while the band sit back, happily cooking along only to explode into the solo section! Beautiful spring is a bit mellower and a bit more spiritual. Mike Adlington’s trumpet floats over the top as the jazz waltz builds and builds, only to drop right down for a bass solo. From there the energy level slowly grows reaching a peak during Mike Fletcher’s stunning alto solo.
