Melbourne resident Sui Zhen’s ‘Female Basic’ showcases her own version of Japanese post-punk through a dreamy balaeric-bossanova filter.

Having graduated from the Redbull Music Academy in London alongside the likes of Daisuke Tanabe & Andras Fox, Female Basic sees Sui Zhen move away from her previous beautiful bedroom-pop on to something more minimal and mysterious. Influenced as much by long sunny days spent in Osaka as nights in Shinjuku record stores hunting for Mariah & Dip in the Pool vinyl, Sui Zhen gives us the soundtrack for a slow-motion, late night disco found somewhere between Australia & Japan.
