"A set of songs we performed only once, at the Lowry gallery in Salford. Had thought this performance to be forever lost in the ether, as our recording of it turned out to be corrupted, but it turns out that our good friend and colleague, Robin Macmillan, had the good sense to make his own recording of the event, which I’m very happy to be able to share here… – Andy

Like waking up in a surreal dream that makes perfect sense, we found ourselves in an art gallery in Salford, performing a set of antique French songs that we like to imagine somehow evolved into the gritty Manchester anthems of today…the pictures around us captured familiar industrial scenes painted by a French Impressionist who traded the subtle sunlit hues of St. Etienne for the smog-smudged urban landscapes of Manchester. This unlikely soundtrack seemed a perfect way to capture the perception of Pierre Adolphe Valette, an artist who saw a strange beauty in the brutalism of the home of the Industrial Revolution.
