Teddy Phillips, a native of Chicago, formed his first orchestra while attending high school in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago. He also attended the University of Illinois Scholl of Music.
While still in school, Teddy attractred the attention of the late Ben Bernie, who sponsored his musical education, gave him his first job with a name band, and willed Teddy his entire musical library.
