Australia EMI's version of "20 Greatest Hits" includes a bonus 7" EP with 3 additional tracks, as The Beatles had 23 number ones in Australia. The track line up is exclusive to this release to represent the #1s in Australia.
Parlophone black/silver "1-box" label.
First few years of pressings, the LP label perimeter text contained "The Gramophone Co Ltd", and stated "Made in Australia by E.M.I (Australia) Limited" along the bottom perimeter. Later pressings this bottom text is eliminated and the upper perimeter text is also changed. The EP of the earlier pressings had a large "A" for side 1 with text in the entire label perimeter.
First pressings, LP comes with a color inner sleeve of that as the US/UK "20 Greatest Hits".
The EP sleeve has 2 known variations of the same collage design as the LP inner sleeve; one with a central hole and the other without.
Later pressings, the LP came in a plain clear rice paper inner sleeve and the EP was housed in an EMI Australia sleeve (in various colors).
Some copies also came with an insert for the Beatles EMI Australia catalog. (see photos)
The LP is unique even if for no other reason than being the only LP worldwide to contain the 1963 stereo mix of "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Unfortunately though, the first second of the track suffers from an audible “wow”, the result of a hasty 1982 tape dubbing exercise.
Bonus 3-track E.P. catalogue number: A-980.
