The Chestnut Brass Company began as a street band in Philadelphia, performing for passers-by on Chestnut Street. They now tour through-out the United States performing concerts and brass clinics on their collection of modern, antique and ancient brass instruments. This collection includes such instruments as cornettos, sackbutts, over-the-shoulder horns and a keyed bugle.
The members of the ensemble studied at such institutions as the Philadelphia Musical Academy, the Eastman School of Music, the University of Illinois, the New School of Music, and Northwestern University.
The members of the Chestnut Brass Company were named "Young Artists to Watch" by Musical America in 1979. They are ensemble in residence at Philadelphia Drexel University.
