Album Info

Label: Decca

For "Koni Au," John Kalapana is listed as the songwriter on the album cover, but King David Kalakaua if more generally acknowledged to be the songwriter. The song "Niu Hau Hau" is more often spelled "Niu Haohao," and Bina Mossman is the songwriter. "Hawaiian Music and Musicians" originally edited by George S. Kanahele and revised by John Berger indicates that lyrics and original melody of the "Hawaiian War Chant" came from 19th Century Prince Leleiohoku but was adapted by John Noble. This is the credit on the LP as well, except with a misspelling of the prince's name to Leleiohaku. The web site huapala.org lists only Mary Montano as the songwriter, but adds that from 1962, Charles E. King held the copyright.
