The Band was founded in 1904 by Ulstermen who came to the industrial West of Scotland.Only one of the original members is alive today. The basic principle of the band was the pursuit and cultivation of good music - a policy which is carried on today. The Band of that day had the distinction of being the first Flute Band to parade the town of Motherwell.Building up a splendid record of achievement in the contest world, the Band, then known as Motherwell Conservative, won all the major awards in Scotland.Their labours were suitably rewarded in 1926 by a BBC contract to broadcast from the old Glasgow studio in Blythswood Square - a very unique performance in those days...Also available on Stereo No. SZLP 2081
