Release Date: 1981

Label: Sine Qua Non

"Fanfare" consists of two themes: "a first theme in an animated 16th-note fashion; a second theme -- broader and more song-like in character." The short piece was an instant hit and as remained as such in the nearly 40 intervening years. The theme was taken and used as the music for the last movement of his Symphony No. 3, written four years later. It is this orchestrated version, with its emphatic percussion augmenting the righteous blare of the brass, that is used for this recording.
