Originally released in May 1974 as a 35-track triple LP, The Supremes - Anthology was the most comprehensive compilation yet issued. The 3xLP set contained all 27 of the Supremes' R&B hits between 1962-1969, as well as 28 of their 30 pop chart hits. Motown revised its "Anthology" series, putting out editions in 1986, 1995, and 2001 that expanded upon the original release. In August 1986, Motown issued this release, a 49 song double CD under the same title. A revamped "Anthology" 52-track double CD (Motown 530511) was released on September 28, 1995. The double CD released December 18, 2001 contains 50 tracks but none of the songs The Supremes recorded after Diana Ross left the group, this 1986 double CD release does contain those songs.
