University Ensemble - Dr. William Berge
Reginald Walters, the Director - Arranger for the University Ensemble, has said of these songs:
"This gospel-spiritual based music is the essence of a culture which abounds in joyful, uninhibited expression, jazz motifs, and a freedom which refreshingly breaks the formality of restraint.
"not that this great music is wild chance singing, truly I have been striving to give our culture as much intellectual sweat as classics - but it surpasses 'opera' because it speaks simply and deeply and yet, given work and love, is everlastingly 'good' music for just-people."
