Thelonious Monk Trio (Prestige PRLP 7027) marked the pianist's first album in a trio format. It was recorded over the course of three sessions in 1952-54 and showcases Monk backed by such luminaries as Percy Heath on bass, and Max Roach and Art Blakey on drums. Two songs that complete the sessions but were not included on the original LP have been added here, as well as the only three trio tracks from Monk's otherwise quartet or quintet Blue Note dates from the early Fifties, and all six master takes from his October 24, 1947 Blue Note studio session, which constituted Monk's earliest trio session ever.Recording dates:
