The trio was formed in the summer of 1979 on the occasion of a concert given by Gerald Oshita and Tom Buckner at the Creative Music Studios in Woodstock, New York. Gerald was teaching a course in "New Concepts in Composition" in a summer program directed by Roscoe Mitchell of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. That same summer, the three gave a concert at Soundscape in New York City, and a long-term collaboration began, resulting in concerts in California and the recording of this album.
