Jacques Laval, was a French Roman Catholic priest and missionary to Mauritius. He is known honorifically as the "Apostle of Mauritius". He was beatified on 24 April 1979 (the first of 1,340 people beatified in the pontificate of Pope John Paul II) ; on this occasion, mauritians musicians (Marclaine Antoine, Christian Tossé...) and singer (Thomy) were asked to pay tribute to him in song.
