Having begun my musical experiments with a stark array of old instruments and a borrowed TEAC reel-to-reel four-track in the early 1990s, I thought it appropriate to abandon DAW-based composition and sequencing that I have used for nigh on two decades and return to a more organic process once again.

Gathering open-ended passes of myself playing drums, Rhodes piano and acoustic / electric guitar I attempted to construct a sense of cohesion and flow with some very disparate source elements. Woven into the mixes are numerous recordings made whilst travelling through the West coast of America in mid 2019.

The majority of the takes on this album are live performances of manipulated acoustic guitar affected by granular synthesis, with the onus being on free-form flow and progression to capture unintended occurrences and pleasant mistakes.

'Scordatura' is a tuning of a stringed instrument to effect a very different sound output than that which was intended for the instrument.

Tracks 1-7, 2-5 and 2-6 are exclusive to the 2CD release.
