Tito Rojas, also known as “El Gallo Salsero,” is the stage name of the Puerto Rican singer and producer of salsa and tropical music, Julio César Rojas López. He was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on June 14, 1955. His childhood was spent in the tranquility that came with living on the eastern coast in his native Humacao, where he attended primary and secondary school. His first contacts with music were listening to the unmistakable notes of “jumper music,” which was a type of record player that worked by inserting a coin into a slot. From a very young age, he showed his inclination towards music and singing, and encouraged by his grandparents, he began practicing guitar at the age of 10. Later, with his brothers, he dedicated himself to playing Christmas music at celebrations in the Mariana neighborhood where he spent his childhood.
His beginnings in the music industry date back to 1972 with Pedro Conga and his International Orchestra, where he debuted singing the song “Olvídate de mí”. After a while, Tito decided to look for other directions and joined Conjunto Borincuba, with which he participated in the recording of two albums: “Con Amor” in 1978 and “Aquí” in 1979. At the beginning of the 80s and after Conjunto Borincuba dissolved, Rojas decided to launch himself as a soloist and formed the group El Conjunto Borincano, achieving moderate success in Puerto Rico and some neighboring countries. In 1986, the singer began a new project as a singer and joined Puerto Rican Power, where he remained until 1989.
In 1990, Tito Rojas recorded the solo album “Sensual”, which contained the hit singles “Siempre seré” and “Ella se hizo deseo”. Later, the singer made the albums “Tito Rojas” in 1992, “A mi estilo” in 1993 and “Por derecho propio” in 1995. To end the decade of the 90s, the albums “Humildemente y Pa’l pueblo”, “20º Aniversario, Alegrías y penas” and “Navidad con Tito Rojas” were produced. At the beginning of the 2000s, he launched his live album called Tito Rojas Live, and in 2004, the artist surprised his audience with the production of the album “El de siempre”. Among his latest works are the album “El viajero” in 2014 and “Un gallo para la historia” album in 2109.
Unfortunately, Tito Rojas passed away on December 26, 2020, at the age of 65 in his hometown surrounded by his family and friends.
