"Tom Waits plays piano and sings on most of the tracks. But alongside the programme, he also introduced some 'funky' instruments such as a Theramin, the Str-Violin, which looks like a violin without a body but with a horn attached to it; waterphones, which have many little metal poles protruding from a cylinder with a handle; and the 'Bug', which appears to be a diamond-shaped piece of wood with strings and also the protruding poles, two of which look like antennas."
