Bandcamp download includes jpg file of front cover and pdf file of artwork.A bunch of the sounds on here come from a dictaphone recording made on the evening of December 31 1992 after TMA-1 had performed at CORE, an industrial new year gig held in a warehouse on the corner of Lichfield & Madras Streets in Christchurch.
Recorded 1992–1994. Messed with and edited in the usual rushed manner December 2012.
Track 1 rhythms from a lost early song called 493 that was never recorded. Soundbites from the backstage party at CORE 31/12/1992.
Track 2: 2012 overcompressed mix. Original version from 5 cassette, 1992.
Track 3 from 007 - recorded winter 1994 at 44 Ely St, Christchurch.
Track 4 recorded sometime in the winter of 1993 at 44 Ely St, released on Blunts & Fobs compilation cassette. Somewhere along the way the original four track master has gone missing, possibly recorded over. All that is left is this - a stereo mixdown with vocal overdubs.
Track 5 taken from a video of a live set at Quadrophenia April 2 1994. Drum machine from the 'studio version' overdubbed.
Track 6 from the Bulk cassette (1994). Recorded at the Unslung Cat studio, otherwise known as Jmz's room, 44 Ely St Christchurch.
Track 7 previously unissued discovered on a four track cassette of recordings from the Screech! period, 1993–1994.
Track 8 recorded late 1993 at 44 Ely St, Christchurch and released on Screech! At the start is a snippet from the Quadrophenia live version (2/4/94).
Track 9 issued on the cassette 5. Includes excerpts from Negativland - Escape From Noise and some lines from The Simpsons and The Munsters.
Track 10: randomness from a 'friend' of the band recorded into the dictaphone, Dec 31 1992. Background soundscape recorded in Peter's bedroom by Jmz, Peter and Weston Owens late 1992.
Track 11: short excerpt from TMA-1's live set at Orientation 94 - 27 February 1994.
Track 12 recorded at Broken Air (or was it Ear?) in Dunedin, August 13 1993. The words spoken by Jmz are from Bruce Russell's Free Noise manifesto which was pinned to the wall of the studio.
Track 13 recorded at 157 Brougham St early 1993. Issued on the comp cassette Blunts & Fobs.
Track 14 recorded summer 1993–1994 at 44 Ely St, in the early hours of the morning, hence the whispered vocals. Another version was recorded for Screech! around the same time, but this one never came out until the CDr version of Screech! was released in 1997.
Track 15 recorded at 493 Cashel St 1992, issued on 5. End segment from the CORE party Dec 31 1992.
Track 16: December 31 1992, backstage at CORE - the industrial new year bash held in a warehouse space on the corner of Lichfield & Madras Sts. Jason Lane from CELL interviews TMA-1.
Track 17 recorded late 1991 or early 1992 - can't recall exactly where, possibly at 92c Riccarton Rd, and finished at 493 Cashel St. Several versions were attempted but this one was the recording that made it onto the first TMA-1 cassette Kills Mould, Fungi & Lichens.
Track 18 recorded at 493 Cashel St late 1992. Sounds include, in no particular order, a 60 minutes TV documentary on a cancer survivor, George Martin's soundtrack to Yellow Submarine, and a backwards mix of voices recorded for a birthday celebration for a friend of the household. Original version ended up on Blunts & Fobs cassette in 1993.
Track 19 recorded for a friend's birthday late 1992. This version incorporates Jmz's vocals from a unused mix of Vapid.
Track 20: segment of garbled nonsense from December 31 1992, including the first recorded example of the correct pronunciation of the then newly monikered cassette label. Rhythms programmed sometime in 1993. Edited especially for this mixtape.
