OC Review:
This is a song cycle, not an opera, completed in 1920. Style is clearly tonal, Late-Romantic with Impressionist influences, on the conservative side of the Modern spectrum. Closer to Schumann lieder or Ravel chanson than the sardonic neo-classicism of Stravinsky and Les Six.
