This Art Of Noise digital "tribute CD", a project by and for fans of the band, was announced on the aon-chat mailing list (now defunct) in March 2001. It only ever existed as 10 MP3s (1×160, 3×192, 4×320 kbps CBR, 1×198 kbps VBR), and 10 JPEG files separately downloadable from the website aon.electriceye.net, which was set up specially for this project. The files were added gradually from March to November 2001. A set of AoN-themed Windows 9x cursors was also available as a bonus download.

The album title was suggested by Ian Peel, who later curated another tribute album, The Abduction Of The Art Of Noise, released in 2004.

Artist names and track titles on the website differ slightly from what is in the files; a combination of the info is presented here.

The album was quietly reissued in 2006 as The Heart Of Noise (A Tribute To The Art Of Noise) by changing the MP3s and the design of the website.
