Liner notes by SoundslikeCornwall:Holman Climax has again this year been a 'pacesetter' as the first Cornish male voice choir to make a concert tour in the United States. Although one of the younger choirs of the county, it has a glittering record in festival singing throughout Britain, and in its work for charity-over £37,000 raised to date !
It is never easy to surpass past performances, but this choir has a way of adding fresh distinction to its roll of honour, year by year. On this album, the resonant and relaxed voices revel in the most triumphant songs of all, telling the glorious story of Christmas.

As Methodism was 'Born in, Song', so the Camborne Circuit Wives Choir had its origin in the chapels of the area. This record celebrates the choir's 10th birthday, for it was formed in 1969 following a successful charity concert. From this modest start, developed a ladies choir that has achieved country-wide recognition with competition and concert appearances.
The tone and diction of these singers make a memorable partnership with the 'Climax' male voices-as 'Once in Royal David's City' beautifully displays on this record. Camborne Methodism can be proud of the Choir's singing on this first-but surely not last-album for Sentinel.
Camborne Town Band has just 17 years to go to its centenary, but it was only in 1945 that its serious contest work began. How the honours have flowed in since then! Fifteen times West of England champions, the band has gained remarkable national honours, including fourth place in the Albert Hall finals two years ago.
The professional approach to music and performance shines through in this album like the Christmas Star. The band has become a 'Sentinel' favourite with the public, following the two successful records in 1978, and this L.P. can only add to this popularity.
WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS! That is the message that comes ringing through this selection of the most popular songs telling the story of the Infant's Birth. Joyous and jubilant are the voices of the Holman Climax Male Voice Choir and the Camborne Circuit Wives Choir, and these are complemented by the magnificent sound of the Camborne Town Band. Can any town in the West Country match such a superb trio? Camborne and Cornwall can be proud of this partnership. This album will certainly take its place in the ranks of Sentinel's Christmas records of recent years that still hold a high rating in the affection of listeners from Penzance to Perth, and from New York to Nairobi. --- Douglas Williams
