Soundtrack to hip kid film features music from Los Lobos, Danny Elfman, John Debney and director Robert Rodriguez.

The music, simply put, is a blast. Rodriguez has assembled a stellar group of Hollywood’s top composing talents to create a score as quirky and engaging as the film. The score contains contributions from John Debney (The Emperor's New Groove (An Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack), The Replacements (Music From The Motion Picture), Michael Jordan To The Max (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)) and Danny Elfman (Good Will Hunting, Mission: Impossible (Music From The Original Motion Picture Score), Batman (Original Motion Picture Score)). The crème de la creme may well be two tracks performed by the pride of East Los Angeles, Los Lobos. Not only did they co-write (with director Robert Rodriguez) the track Spy Wedding, but they also took the track Oye Como Spy (which was co-written by Rodriguez and Austin singer-songwriter David Garza) that riffs on the Tito Puente classic Oye Como Va and performed it with a rocking 90-piece orchestra. Film buffs and Robert Rodriguez fans will be intrigued to note that the director himself has several tracks on the album—the multi-faceted director is indeed a talented musician as well.

Los Angeles-based power-popsters Fonda also contribute the film’s theme song Spy Kids (Save the World). At the request of Nickelodeon and The Fox Family Channel (both of whom love the film and the song) an accompanying music video has been shot on the original film set in Austin. Look for airings of the video to coincide with the film’s release.

Spying isn’t what it used to be. For one thing, the spies are a lot shorter now. Or at least they are in the upcoming Miramax Films release, Spy Kids. A film with touches of James Bond, Get Smart and Willie Wonka, Spy Kids is the latest (and a huge departure) from wunderkind director Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, From Dusk Till Dawn (Music From The Motion Picture)). Starring Antonio Banderas, this is a hip and sly action-adventure film that crisscrosses the globe. Both parents and children will love this imaginative and entertaining movie about a family of spies, and they’ll also love the film’s soundtrack album.

The score won an award at the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards.

Track 19 listed as a bonus track.
