From its quiet beginnings in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1950s, bossa nova grew into international pop music's last big bang before the Beatles. Spearheaded by songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim and singer João Gilberto, this new wave crested in America thanks to tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, guitarist Charlie Byrd and singer Astrud Gilberto.

All are present in this anthology, which includes six songs composed by Jobim. The other headliners are singers Sarah Vaughan, Milton Nascimento, and Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda (aka "Miucha"), trumpeter Miles Davis, and saxophonists Wayne Shorter, Paul Desmond, and Stanley Turrentine. This set is just one small example of how miraculous music Brazil has given the world.

Consists of previously released material.
