Album Info

Release Date: 1970

Label: BBC Records

Blue and white labels.

Side One consists of excerpts from the recordings of the four prize winning performances from the 1969 BBC National Fiddle Competition, held in Perth to celebrate St. Andrew's Day.

Side Two consists of some rousing selections played by three widely contrasting Fiddle Bands

For the competition the Panel of Adjudicators was Yehudi Menuhin, Hector MacAndrew, Watson Forbes and James Hunter.
One hundred and sixteen entries were received from all over the UK.
Perth was the obvious place to hold the final for that was the City that hosted the most famous competition of all. In 1745, just as Bonnie Prince Charlie was raising his Standard at Glenfinnan to begin his ill-fated campaign, the legendary Niel Gow, then only 18, won such a competition in the Fair City and was proclaimed Champion of Scotland.
