Hip Hop For: Obama
The Hip Hop For Obama compilation brings
together an All-Star cast of Hip Hop veterans and
rising stars with one common cause: to see Barack
Obama win the 2008 Presidential Election. Never
before has the entire nation been so captivated by a
presidential election and for those of us riding for
Obama the reason is quite clear.
With tracks ranging from scathing political
commentary such as Pens & Needles
"When the Bomb Drops" to the meditative
instrumental soundscape of Al Lover's "Permanent
Vacation" to the lets-try-to-forget-our-problems-anddance
vibe of Tanya Morgan's "And You Say", HHFO
captures the voice of the hip hop community
and broadcasts the message of unwavering support for
the Obama campaign loud and clear. Once referred to
as "The CNN of the streets", Hip Hop Music now
exists as a universal language uniting citizens
worldwide.
In this election year, it’s more important than
ever that the hip hop generation make its voice heard.
This not for profit release is one of countless
grassroots efforts by regular citizens who may not
have been drawn to political causes until this year,
bolstered by two parallel motivations: First, to show
there is more to Hip Hop and Rap music than the
shameless materialism and misogyny portrayed on
television and radio, and Second to raise awareness on
a global level in order to see Barack Obama take office
in January 2009.
