Why this compilation exists (from their Bandcamp page) :On August 4th 2020, the city of Beirut was rocked by the largest explosion it had ever felt. Among its inhabitants, Olivier, co-founder of the summer festival Decks on the Beach, manages to make it out alive but his home is in shambles, as are the homes of thousands of other city dwellers.
Post-blast and still somewhat in shock, four friends, artists, who had by now become regulars at the festival, offered their help: ATTARI, DJ, producer and label manager from Brussels, french electro-pop duo CLAAP!, and the french producer, composer, Radio Nova resident and Partyfine label head, YUKSEK. Olivier suggests they work together to write a song in support of their fellow Beiruti’s, and brings his friend the talented illustrator Raphaelle Macaron on board to draw up the artwork.
What started out as just a song somehow turned into a full-fledged compilation of new, raw material by a handful of artists, whether Lebanese or just flat out in love with Lebanon: Acid Arab, Anoraak, ATTARI, Breakbot, CLAAP!, Dimitri From Paris, DJ Deep, Get A Room!, In Flagranti, Gabriel Yared, Hasan Minawi, Irfane, J’emballe Jean, Joakim, Julien Jabre, Mike Simonetti, Rubin Steiner, Sal P from Liquid Liquid, Sarah Maison, Simon LeSaint, Takuya Nakamura, Whatever/Whatever aka Justin Strauss & Bryan Mette, You Man, YSF (the other half of Decks on the Beach), Yuksek, Zeb aka The Spy From Cairo and Zimmer.
All proceeds of this compilation will go towards Baytna Baytak, an NGO committed to helping people who lost their homes after the blast, in hopes to rebuild before winter comes.
