What you so often see from us are carefully crafted love letters – or webstore mailers, as many would call them – to our artists, formally presenting why we love them and why we think you'll love them too. You know that our rock artists hold numerous chart positions, embark on huge tours and embody the finest of rock influences, from Led Zeppelin to Foo Fighters.
But what you don't see are the small moments of behind-the-scenes passion that are far off the screen – at the end of the day, we're music fans just like you who are lucky enough to work with our favourite artists.
So what don't you see?...
… The brand new signing that gave me their drumstick at the end of the show, having seen me, a fan since their debut album, singing along to every lyric, not yet knowing that I work at their new label. The drumstick now sits in a treasured Guns N' Roses glass taken from a GN'R pop-up shop – two of my personal rock legends now collide in my bedroom for me to wonder at. Thank you, Goodbye June.
… The band that brought genuine tears to my eyes as I watched them headline one of London's biggest venues – I couldn't quite believe that I now get to represent them, four years after seeing them play an astonishing set at Manchester Club Academy (the first ever gig I braved on my own – and thanks to this immersive gig, going to a gig alone was suddenly magical, not daunting). Thank you, The Temperance Movement.
… The band who have always been kind and receptive to my work so that we could help each other grow stronger, from helping to spread my journalistic work before they were on the label, to being true gentlemen to work with when they became a part of the Earache family. Thank you, The Dust Coda.
I could continue on, but I know your time is precious. We promise that, for those who love rock music, listening to this sampler is precious time well spent. This is a sampler that holds the spirit of new friends found, the tribute to loved ones lost. It holds soul, it holds revolution – and most importantly, it holds rock'n'roll.
We hope you enjoy the hell out of it!
