This collection covers the NZ alternative music scene from the Christchurch perspective, of what we saw in our local venues between 1984 and 1986. This was a time of many Dunedin bands making the trip to play the larger thriving music scene in the garden city with its 3 active music venues (The Gladstone, The Hillsborough, and The Star & Garter), as well as a strong audience that patronised these focal points of music. It was also seen as a viable destination for bands from wellington and Auckland with bands like Children's Hour, Bird Nest Roys and the Spines making regular trips south.
The cassette version of this album was originally released through local New Zealand record stores and was also picked up for international distribution by Flying Nun who sent 200 copies to America.
Many bands made their debut on this compilation before following up with major releases on other labels.
The Artwork was designed by Dean Inkster and completed by Matthew Campbell.
"Remastered from the original quarter inch Reel Masters. Some of the original recordings were done live to cassette and the transparency of the digital medium lets some of that pure low-fi joy through."
