Closer To Heaven: A Tribute To Ed Ackerson is a compilation of artists who have been inspired by the music of beloved Minneapolis musician/producer/studio owner extraordinaire Ed Ackerson, who left us on October 4, 2019. Over the last year, artists from across the globe have contributed their interpretations of Ed's music, covering every period of his long career: The Dig, The 27 Various, Polara, solo work and BNLX. The breadth of creativity is as bold and varied as
Ed's music itself.
To mark the one year anniversary of Ed's passing, Susstones is releasing this celebration of Ed's music. The list of contributing artists is an eclectic mix of artists who have crossed paths in one way or another with Ed over the last 3 decades: The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, The Dandy Warhols, Motion City Soundtrack, The Ocean Blue, to name just a few.
The album title was inspired by the final Polara release in 2009, “Closer to Heaven,” a digital only single that received only very limited release. It was rediscovered during the research for this project and seemed like a fitting title for an Ed tribute album. Polara’s original version will relaunch on the Susstones Bandcamp page starting 10/4/20 in conjunction with the release of Closer To Heaven: A Tribute To Ed Ackerson.
