Not much is known about Lawrence Gellert. There is even less information on this record and the artists are unknown. The notes on the reissue on Rounder Records states that 40 copies were made, but according to Dick Weissman's book Which Side Are You On?, there were 100 copies pressed. They were apparently circulated out of his apartment in New York City to people who heard of it by word of mouth.
