The Radio Caroline Story 1964-1984
This album set traces the fascinating story of the life of Radio Caroline.
Few of us can imagine a period in our lives when we were not surrounded, if not inundated with local radio, offshore pirate stations, BBC national and local networks, and more recently land based pirate stations. This story starts in 1963 when a total of about 2 hours a week was given to popular music on the BBC networks. AIl day pop music just did not exist. Although Radio Luxembourg beamed Record Company Shows to the UK in the evenings, it was Ronan O'Rahilly who had the foresight to see the need for all day popular music entertainment.
The Radio Caroline Story is not just the story of a radio station, but a story which forced change for the whole UK radio industry.
