This recording, coordinated by Larry Austin in consultation with Jon Appleton, Moses Asch, Thomas Clark, and Charles Dodge, represents official documentation, along with the Proceedings, of the 1981 International Computer Music Conference presented by the School of Music, North Texas State University, Denton, Texas, Nov. 5-8, in cooperation with the Computer Music Association.

The computer graphic appearing as part of the cover jacket design, "The First Fractional Brownian Island", was created by Benoit Mandelbrot for "The Fractal Geometry of Nature", published in 1982.
