In 1984 American Rag Cie opened its first store in San Francisco. A year later, founder Mark Werts opened the flagship store on La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles. A totally new retail concept was born in California: fun and entertaining lifestyle retailing.
American Rag Cie, was a godsend for today's busy savvy shopper. Now under one roof, one could discover emerging designers in apparel, shoes, sports wear, vintage clothing, jeans wear, house wares, home furnishing, books, plus any other surprising finds acquired during the buyers' global adventures. American Rag Cie today is still focused on finding THE best of each category and showcasing the most exciting collection of goods.
In response to the quality of music programming of its retail locations, in 2002 American Rag Cie launched its "best of the best" music boutique, spearheaded by Los Angeles tastemaker Allen Voskanian. This new addition was a huge success, delighting customers and introducing new music trends from around the world.
December 2004 marks the beginning of a joint collaboration between Quango and American Rag Cie with the release of its first compilation.
With over 40 releases in the last decade, Quango has been on the forefront of the emerging electronic sounds from around the globe with a diverse roster of compilations and artist albums including Kruder & Dorfmeister, Zero 7, Koop, and Talvin Singh.
