A new concept at the time, the base US jazz band (Clark Terry, JJ Johnson, Ben Webster, Hank Jones, Jo Jones, Kenny Burrell and George Duvivier) were recorded in NY on May 19, 1959. They left space in their recordings where just the rhythm section played so the tapes could be brought across the ocean to record those artists with American Jazz musicians.

June 22, 1959 - added solos from Roy East, George Chisholm and Ronnie Ross were added from London.
July 1st, 1959 - Aake Persson's solo was added from a Stockholm visit.
July 3rd, 1959 - Roger Guerin, Bob Garcia, Martial Solal, Stephane Grappelli added their solos from Paris.
