Music In The World Of Islam by Various

Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 1976

Label: Tangent Records

Released around the same time as the exhibition "Music and Musical Instruments in the World of Islam" at the Horniman Museum, London (6th April to 6th October 1976). There's also a 104-page book, also titled "Music and Musical Instruments in the World of Islam", written by the compilers of the albums: Jean Jenkins and Poul Rovsing Olsen. Some copies of the box set might have been sold together with the book, but it seems not to have been an integral part of the set - the box is not deep enough for both LPs and book to sit comfortably inside.

The 6 records in the box were also released separately:
TGS 131 - Music In The World Of Islam, 1: The Human Voice
TGS 132 - Music In The World Of Islam, 2: Lutes
TGS 133 - Music In The World Of Islam, 3: Strings
TGS 134 - Music In The World Of Islam, 4: Flutes & Trumpets
TGS 135 - Music In The World Of Islam, 5 : Reeds & Bagpipes
TGS 136 - الموسيقى في العالم الإسلامي: الإيقاعات والطبول = Music In The World Of Islam, 6: Drums & Rhythms

"DISTRIBUTED IN THE U.K. BY POLYDOR LIMITED" in white text in a black surround at rear right of sleeves and at bottom of labels.
Ttrack A5 is an addendum - information on this track is in a separate block of text to the left of the listing for A5 on the rear of the sleeve for TGS 131. On some copies (presumably earlier ones) this is printed on a sticker, on other copies it's printed directly on the sleeve. Due to this addendum the numbering on the sleeve for the subsequent A side tracks is different to the numbering here.
