The National steel guitar was a relatively new instrument when these recordings were made in the 1920s and 1930s, and these masterful Hawaiian players, working mostly on the mainland, were pivotal in introducing slide techniques to both country and western players (who adapted National steel techniques to the laptop dobro) and blues players from the Delta (who adopted a bottleneck style) and elsewhere.
