The early '80s witnessed the collision of the two unstoppable forces of funky dance music and eletronic instrumentation. The resulting pileup gave birth to the genres of House and Hip Hop, and these in turn formed the basis of much of the pop music we hear today. The songs contained here were on the leading edge of that original crash, at the exact point where disco crossed over into electronic territory, snapshots of the moment when electronica was in its infancy.
