Volume 1 of a series of 20 releases. Installments were not released in chronological order; this volume was the 15th to be released.
Hardcover book in Japanese order ("back-to-front"), 22 pages, with record sleeve in back cover.
This installment covers the Meiji and Taishō eras (1868-1912 and 1912-1926).
All tracks are in fact re-recordings by contemporary artists.

The book consists for the most part of a long historical article; there are also lyrics to the songs and liner notes, and biographies of the principal musical artists from that period.
