Pop TV is officially presented as a book, with an overview of the pop programs on Dutch television in the period 1960-1975, written by AVRO archivist Richard Groothuizen. But such a dry list of names, however beautifully illustrated, will not tempt many potential buyers.The true appeal of this product is the DVD, a 75-minute documentary about Dutch pop television over the years. This provides beautiful images of the time, in addition to little-seen archive material from famous artists from the Netherlands and abroad, from the heyday of pop music. But the information does not go beyond a summary of the successive programs, although illustrated with beautiful images, but without too much explanation or insights. Pop TV offers a wealth of audiovisual material but could have done a bit more.
