"The dance-jazz scene in Japan is flourishing, throwing up a new generation of young DJs and musicians who are collaborating together to create new-jazz hybrids. It is inevitable that the influence of Brasil, the boom of the surdo and the batteria, the sensuous sound of the cuica, those languid melodies, would float to surface. Tokyo based DJs and production trio UFO covered Edú Lôbo's classic "Upa Neguinho" on their excellent Brownswood debut, while Kyoto's Mondo Grosso launch their "Vibe PM" track with a batucada that sounds like the intro to Aito's monstruous "Celebration Suite"."
