Release Date: 2010

Label: KFOG Radio 104.5\97.7

'KFOG Live from the Archives 17' will benefit 8 Bay Area Food Banks and the 9 counties they serve.

Live From the Archives 17 features cover artwork designed by Linda Ruiz-Lozito, winner of the 2010 art contest held by the radio station - a long standing tradition. Ruiz-Lozito was selected from among 200 entries.

This year a special vinyl edition with select tracks from Archives 17 is being offered. The vinyl recording includes seven tracks and is pressed in a limited 400 quantities. The CD version contains the full 12 tracks, but think fast because the limited run of 20,000 sells out quickly.

In this age of digital solutions I asked KFOG’s Marketing Director, Sheri Nelson why Archives 17 was not being offered in this format and she said it wasn’t popular or profitable back in 2008, the last time it was presented to the public digitally.

“We’ve offered a digital download in the past, but the demand wasn’t there for digital versus CD. Our thinking is that since Fogheads have been buying the CD since before the arrival of digital, they prefer having the fully produced CD to add to their collection.

Nelson acknowledged KFOG would see a drop in production costs but added “with demand being lower we would not have been able to donate anywhere near as much to the Food Banks. On another note, digital rights are much tougher (and in some cases non-negotiable) to secure from those who represent the artists.”
