SIMPLE MINDS, PETER GABRIEL, DIRE STRAITS & ERIC CLAPTON
The Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert
Westwood One Superstars Concert Series # CO 89-12
Live at Wembley Stadium, London, England
11 June 1988
Original Airdate: Weekend of 16-18 June 1989
1989 pre-FM Triple Vinyl LP

The show is derived from the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert which occurred on 11 June 1988 at London’s Wembley Stadium, and features Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits and Eric Clapton. (Gabriel only performs one song, Biko, at the end of the Simple Minds set.) Eric Clapton performed alongside his friend Mark Knopfler (in the "inside left" position) during the Dire Straits set, because the regular guitar player (Jack Sonni at that time) was at home with his wife and newborn girls. Knopfler mentions this during the middle section of Walk Of Life about the 3:35 mark. In addition, Clapton performed one of his solo classics as well in Wonderful Tonight. Brothers In Arms was performed that day, but is not included on this LP set for reasons unknown. Released on translucent vinyl.

Runouts are etched, except "KM" which is stamped.

There is another version of this concert featuring some of the Simple Minds set, along with tracks by Sting and the Eurythmics, which can be found on Various - Superstar Concert Series.
