About The Raga In Her Own Words (CD Inlay)
This CD is produced from the digital recording of a concert i gave in Pune on 3rd August, 1996. It was a palatial Hall which was 120 years old. I think some of the imperial atmosphere of the hall somehow shows even in the recording.

In this rendering I present three compositions. The Vilambit my own creation, the Madhya laya bandish is traditional and the Tarana in Drut ada chautal is by Pt. Balwantrai Bhatt.

The popular Raga Pooriya Dhanashree is not a combination of two ragas in spite if its two-word name. (In fact, Raga Dhanasri is very different.) it is, rather, a homogeneous evening melody employing the vikrit versions if the Rishabh, Madhyam and Dhaivat. The mood is on of introspective contemplation, only slightly laced with sadness. One reflects on ones past and asks the Lord to accept oneself, flaws and all, as His life-giving manifestation, the sun, gradually sets behind the horizon, yet another daily journey having been completed.
